Volunteer Opportunities

From Board members to Club leaders volunteers play a critical role at the Young Naturalists’ Club of BC.  Each year they contribute over 5000 hours helping the YNC connect children across the province with nature. Our volunteers bring a variety of skills and expertise to their jobs and although many of our volunteers do have incredible expertise in biology and natural history, other skills, in areas such as communication, marketing, fundraising, special events and IT,  are equally important for the YNC to thirive.

  • Office Support- we need your help to make welcome packs for new members and leaders, make YNC buttons, organize supplies and many of other tasks that can be lots of fun when tackled together! 3-5 hours a month is all it takes to really make a difference! Work parties take place at the YNC offices in North Vancouver and various Lower Mainland venues.

If  this sounds like you and you have time to share your expertise and enthusiasm with YNC members on Explorer Day outings or by presenting to school nature clubs become a YNC nature mentor!
  • Nature Clubs Co-Leader. The YNC operates nature clubs for children and their families in over 30 communities and 20 schools around BC. All our club leaders are volunteers - if you are organized, interested in the environment and can help organize/facilitate 10 explorer days per year this opportunity may be for you!

Special Projects

  • Diversity and Outreach Volunteer. The YNC has recognized a need to build the diversity of our organization- from membership to volunteers- and we are looking for volunteers with expertise in this area to help us develop a plan to do this and to reach out more broadly. After all, we are all connected to nature!
  • NatureWILD Magazine Promotion. NatureWILD Magazine is BC's only home grown nature magazine for children; it is produced by the YNC with contributions from some of BC's leading naturalists and biologists. In it you'll find articles on BC's wildlife and ecosystems, stories about (and by) children taking action for the environment along with activities games and contests. We're looking for a volunteer to help develop a larger subscription base for NatureWILD as well as see it offered for sale in various bookstores and children's stores. Can you help?
