Rocky Mountain

Friends are welcome if space permits.  Any young naturalist 14 years of age and under must be accompanied by an adult.

To take part in an Explorer Day, all adult guardians must sign a consent form available on the day.

Please arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled start time to ensure enough time for waiver signing and passport stamping.  Remember to bring your passport—fill it out in advance at home to make it easier for the Leaders to stamp it.

Every time you complete a passport (attend 6 events), send the tickets to YNC in Vancouver and you will receive a certificate, a prize, and a new passport.  The prize for completing your second passport is a YNC cap.

All activities will take place rain or shine unless otherwise noted.  Please consider the weather and the activity, and wear appropriate clothing and shoes, including sunhats and sunscreen. Bring snacks and water.

Other items that might be useful are: magnifying glass, binoculars, sketch book and pencil, camera and field guides.

Starting times are firm out of courtesy to the Leader of the day. We regret that we cannot wait for those who are late.

Please stay with the Leader and let him/her know if you are leaving early.

CONTACT LEADER FOR DETAILS ABOUT UPCOMING EXPLORER DAYS.

Pre-registration required for all events.

UPCOMING EVENTS:
What:     Animal Track Identification
When:   Saturday, April 10th, 12 noon to 3 pm.
Where: We will meet at the Trout Hatchery parking lot at 12 noon. From there we will walk over to Joe's ranch where we will look for tracks along the river bank.

The topic will be animal track identification. Our guest guide will be Dr. Joe Kotlarz. Joe is an avid outdoorsman who grew up in this area and knows the Rocky Mountains like the back of his hand. We are looking forward to learning all about animal tracks from him. During our outing, the Young Naturalists will have a chance to make castings of the animal tracks which they can take home with them.

  • Please bring a picnic lunch for your family and dress for the unpredictable spring weather.

  • In order to ensure that there are enough casting supplies for all Young Naturalists, please RSVP by Wednesday, April 7th, 2010.

P.S. We have about 30 of the YNC Rocky Mountain Calendars left for anyone who would like to purchase one. The calendars feature the awesome artwork of the Young Naturalists of our club and also contain monthly nature events and family activities. This calendar is the main source of fundraising which allows us to provide this Young Naturalists' program.
