Pre-registration with YNC leader required for all Explorer Days
Friends are welcome if space permits. Any young naturalist 14 years of age and under must be accompanied by an adult.
To take part in any Explorer Day, all adult guardians must sign a consent form available on the day.
Please arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled start time to ensure enough time for waiver signing and passport stamping. Remember to bring your passport—fill it out in advance at home to make it easier for the Leaders to stamp it.
All activities will take place rain or shine unless otherwise noted. Please consider the weather and the activity, and wear appropriate clothing and shoes, including sunhats and sunscreen. Bring snacks and water.
Other items that might be useful are: magnifying glass, binoculars, sketch book and pencil, camera and field guides.
Starting times are firm out of courtesy to the Leader of the day. We regret that we cannot wait for those who are late.
Please stay with the Leader and let him/her know if you are leaving early.
UPCOMING EVENTS:
LIFE IN THE ROCKY INTERTIDAL ZONE
A program by Sheila Byers a leader of
Nature Vancouver’s Marine Biology Section
Place: STANLEY PARK
When: Saturday, June 12 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Please pre-register with Eva Nagy
604 929-4286 or evnagy@shaw.ca
Please join Sheila Byers for an exciting exploration of life in the rocky inter-tidal zone at Stanley Park. During this hands-on expedition we will search for a variety of interesting creatures such as crabs, barnacles, sea stars, worms, mussels and seaweeds to learn about where they live and how they interact with each other. Experience the fresh air and spring tides at their lowest. Learn to practice good beach manners and come get your hands dirty – this is marine biology at its finest!
Low tide is at 12:30 PM (0.3 m height).
Each participant will receive a copy of Nature Vancouver’s excellent, waterproof pamphlet: Explore the Rocky Shore at Stanley Park, so you can enjoy many more informative trips to the beaches.
Be prepared to navigate shallow water, rocks and slippery surfaces. Wear rubber boots or snug water shoes if you have one. Trip goes on rain or shine so please dress for the weather. Bring hat, sunscreen, extra water and camera. Please eat lunch before you arrive, no food on the beach.
'Due to safety concerns for both children and marine life, this program is restricted to children OVER 5 years of age. Please do not bring younger age siblings."
*** Meet at the Vancouver Aquarium’s Aquaquest Entrance (north end of the building as you walk along the ramp) at 11:00 am. We will have a short orientation
inside the building before we take a short 10-minute walk to the rocky inter-tidal shore near the EMPRESS OF JAPAN figurehead.
Registration is limited to 30 participants (including parents).
